About

What is Counselling?

Counselling is a talking therapy that provides a safe space to explore difficult or overwhelming emotions. You may find it easier to open up in counselling than with family or friends. Together, we can begin to make sense of these feelings, understand where they come from, and decide how you wish to move forward.

Counselling Can Help You:

•    Gain clarity and perspective
•    Identify and understand underlying issues
•    Work towards meaningful goals
•    Make lasting changes
•    Feel more confident and in control
•    Improve your relationships
•    Enhance your overall wellbeing
•    Move toward personal growth and fulfilment

As an integrative practitioner, I believe one size does not fit all. I tailor therapy to each individual, drawing on a range of approaches including:

  • Person-centred and Humanistic therapy

  • Gestalt therapy

  • Transactional Analysis (TA)

  • Mindfulness techniques

I am committed to practising with sensitivity to cultural backgrounds, faith, and personal identity, including gender and sexual orientation.

  • Depression

  • Trauma

  • Grief and bereavement

  • Relationship and family difficulties

  • Low self-esteem and confidence

"I am a senior leader in a College and I have responsibility for Human Resources. I have worked with Nicola for a number of years and she has worked closely with members of staff to support them with a range of issues, both as a preventative measure to help people to remain in the workplace and during a period of absence from work, to facilitate their health and return to work. Nicola provides a confidential service that has, without a doubt, made an immense difference to those people who have been able to access her support. She is always professional, swift to acknowledge referrals and to schedule appointments. Her feedback to me, within professional boundaries, is always much appreciated. I envisage many more years of working with Nicola on the basis of the work she has done so far."

Frequently Asked Questions

Q - How Many Sessions will I need? A - Your first session is an initial assessment, giving us the opportunity to explore your difficulties and determine how best counselling can support you. We’ll discuss therapy options together, and I’ll involve you in choosing the approach that best suits your needs. The number of sessions required varies for each person. Counselling can be short-term—for support through a specific issue—or longer-term depending on your goals. I also offer structured, time-limited therapy models, such as six-session formats. One session does not commit you to ongoing therapy. It’s a chance to talk through your concerns and decide if my service feels right for you. A minimum of three sessions is recommended, with most clients finding benefit from 6–10. Weekly appointments are ideal, though fortnightly sessions can also be arranged. We will hold a review and frequency can be determined by yourself, based on your requirements.

Q – Can I Do My Sessions Online or via Telephone? A - Yes, absolutely! I offer both face-to-face sessions from my private clinic in Huddersfield (HD3) and online counselling sessions via a secure platform. I also offer telephone counselling, if this is preferred. This gives you the flexibility to choose what works best for your lifestyle, comfort, and schedule.

Q – How Much is a Session? A - The fee for individual counselling is £60 for a 60-minute session. This includes your initial assessment. Pre-payment is required in advance of your session to confirm your attendance. This can be via BACS or cash at the end of your session for the next one. I also accept BUPA and other Employee Assistance Programme (EAP) referrals — please contact me for further details if you are using these services. Please note: Cancellations, rescheduling, or missed appointments with less than 48 hours’ notice may still be charged.

Q – How Do I Find You? A - The Counselling Rooms, my therapy space, is a uniquely designed wooden log cabin, garden room in a beautiful woodland setting, a little oasis where nature and the seasons surround. The space offers privacy, it is peaceful and tranquil, surrounded by a view of fields and big skies. The counselling room offers a private, confidential space and is light and airy. The therapy room is easily accessible from both Junction 23 and Junction 24 of the M62 Motorway, located in the village of Lindley. There is parking at the Counselling Room. The room can be accessed via regular bus services, only a short walk away, there is a bus stop located on Weatherhill Road. It is easily accessible from Lindley, Outlane, Sowood, Slaithwaite, Milnsbridge, Quarmby, Paddock, Longwood and Huddersfield. Clients have travelled to see me from Halifax, Elland, Stainland, Ripponden, Rochdale, Raistrick, Brighouse, Fartown, Holmfirth, Meltham, Bradford, Leeds and Wakefield.
